The BIG Life
BIG is staffed by some of the most experienced and knowledgeable players in all of EVE who enjoy an unrivaled sense of community. Our forums and chat channels are exceptionally active, full of mature and sensible players of all types.
We have a unique way of managing our corporation's resources and members, which is designed to create an extremely tight-knit community.
What BIG Provides
BIG members are provided with everything that they need to play the game the way they wish, free of charge. BIG members are expected to use only what they require and no more, unreasonable requests will not be fulfilled.
Anything you require that we do not have can be requested on our forums, and we will get it for you. We generally do not hand out isk to members, opting to deliver the items you require instead. Isk will be given if no alternative is available.
All members are free to use anything that we have, if they do not have direct access all they must do is ask and the item will be given. When the item is no longer being used, it is returned to the corporate hangar. This is a privilege granted to all members, regardless of rank.
Sharing Policy
BIG is committed to creating a close-knit community, so we have implemented one of the most comprehensive resource sharing programs in EVE. BIG members have no personal wealth or property, and everything is pooled together for everyone to use. New members are given time to adjust to sharing, and are not expected to donate everything right away.
All donations are final, there are no returns. Donated items and isk become the property of BIG. BIG operates with a 100% tax on the honor system, the in-game tax rate is set at 0%. Most BIG members only keep a very small amount of isk in their wallet at any time, and excess is given to the corporation.
Ships and items that are not in use must be returned to the corporate hangars, where they can be used by anyone. We generally stock more than enough ships and modules, so there are plenty for everyone.
All characters owned by BIG members must be members of the corporation; we do not allow characters in other corporations as it interferes with our sharing policy. Some exceptions are made for hauling characters during wars, BIG sub-corporations and un-played characters.
Ranks
There are three main ranks for BIG members, and promotions are not based on seniority. They are based purely on trust and merit. Some members take longer to be promoted than others, and promotions in BIG tend to take longer than in most other corporations. Below is a list of the ranks in BIG:
Recruit is the first rank within BIG and gives only limited direct access to our resources, any resources that the recruit does not have direct access to can be requested. Recruits are encouraged to donate any items they are not currently using, but are not expected to renounce all possessions on their first day. A recruit must eventually donate all possessions to the corporation in order to be considered for promotion to Enlisted.
Enlisted members are full members, having proven themselves trustworthy and renounced all personal wealth. Enlisted members have greater direct access to our common pool of gear, and can ask to use anything that we have on behalf of BIG. Promotion to the next rank, BIG'un, is not for everyone. Not all members become BIG'uns no matter how long they've been with BIG.
BIG'uns are members who have worked hard and well with others, exhibited selfless devotion to our sharing policy, participated actively in corporate affairs, discussions and operations and have shown their worth above and beyond what is expected. BIG'uns are members of an elite group of the best and the brightest BIG members, some of the most experienced and committed players in EVE.
Projects
BIG’s many facets are organized into projects such as T1 Sales, or Logistics. Each project is divided up into granular tasks. Each task is a small chunk of work that is needed to fulfill the goals of that project, such as transporting goods via jump freighter or placing items on the market for sale.
BIG maintains a list of projects and the tasks associated with each one, members are encouraged to be trained in many tasks, and not necessarily all for the same project. The member can then spend his game time completing whatever tasks he’s been trained for, or learn new ones from other members. We also maintain a list of who knows how to perform what tasks, so it’s easy to track down members that can train you.
Tasking in this fashion allows members to have a broad knowledge of tasks available within BIG, and to be fluid in their ability to jump from one type of task to another. This allows our workforce to be agile and responsive to ever-changing circumstances.
Government
The overall direction and goals of the corporation is directed by the CEO and a panel of Presidents. Presidents are the only members with the authority to speak for and make decisions on behalf of the corporation. Presidents are encouraged to consult BIG'uns and other members before acting, but BIG is not a democracy.
BIG is governed by the consensus of the Presidents and the CEO, and as there is no voting, they are not obligated to choose the most popular option in any situation. Presidents act in the best interest of the corporation, with great attention paid to long-term goals and consequences. The CEO of BIG is TornSoul, and he has the power to veto any decision made by the presidents.
New presidents are appointed by the current panel, and presidents may be moved to BIG'un status if they are inactive for excessive amounts of time.
